Giving thanks

It’s Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada (which my friends refer to as the frozen tundra).

And while I’m sure most people had their traditional Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, today is turkey day in our house. And for once, all my children will be in the same house at the same time, which is difficult to co-ordinate since they all work weird shifts. But they’re used to eating holiday dinners at odd times. Growing up, we rarely celebrated with the rest of the world due to my husband’s job. But it didn’t matter. What mattered was that we were together. And for that, I’m truly thankful.

Yes, I can bitch and complain with the best of them, but for the most part, I’m blessed. My family is healthy, we have a roof over our heads and a full stomach. What more do we really need?

A publishing contract would be nice. Oh, and a second bathroom …

Are the cows on strike?

After ten hours of nerve-wracking pool trying to win a spot in the regional championships (and losing), I was in need of comfort food. I needed ice cream. Mint chocolate chip ice cream, to be exact.

So, off I went to my local grocery store (the only one open on Saturday nights). And wouldn’t you know it? Not one carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream to be found. Or strawberry. Or even butterscotch ripple. In fact, the freezer section was almost bare. Why was there a sudden shortage of ice cream? Surely there couldn’t be that many people in need of consolation in my little town at the same time.

Then I spied a few containers of Cadbury Crispy Crunch ice cream in the back of the freezer. I’d never tried it before, and I’m not one for having candy bars in my ice cream, but desperation won out. It’s actually pretty good, but I still prefer my mint chocolate chip.

Note to self: next playoffs, buy ice cream first, just in case.

What’s your favorite comfort food?

It’s official!

I have a brand spanking new website! I’m so excited I could sit and stare at it all day. I love it!!!!

It’s still a work in progress, and I hope to add more content in the near future. I’d like the site to be useful and informative (as well as a fun place to visit), so if there’s something you’d like to see, please let me know.

I’m also wondering about a theme for my new blog. Should I stick to writing-type posts? Should I ramble about what’s going on in my life? Both? Neither? What do you think of themed blogs?

Since it says “author” in the header, I suppose I should actually write something to justify it. But I think I’ll just stare at my beautiful site for a little while longer …
