Ghouls and goblins

Happy Halloween!

I may be the only person on the planet who really dislikes Halloween. I just don’t get it. Maybe it’s because I had a deprived childhood – didn’t go trick-or-treating as a kid – or maybe because there are just too many weird people out there these days that it seems wrong to send your children to strange people’s houses and ask for something (when the other 364 days we teach them not to speak to strangers).

Don’t get me wrong. I love to see the little ones dressed up as bunnies and fairy princesses and superheroes. But I refuse to give candy to those who are old enough to shave and who show up at the door without even an attempt at a costume and carrying a pillowslip.

I’m just really glad I no longer have to take my kiddies out in the cold and dark (and usually rain), stay up after they go to bed and examine the treats, and deal with sugar highs for the next week. Nope, don’t miss it at all.

Do you like Halloween? What’s the best part?

  1. LOVE Halloween. I like eating the candy. πŸ™‚ Can’t see a thing wrong with a free candy! They should do it twice a year!
Tho that hauling htem out in the dark rain (like its supposed to be tonight) is rather daunting. But the candy makes up for it! Chocolate here I come…

  2. No, you are NOT the only person on the planet who hates Halloween. I’m with you, sister. LOL! Just went to the door AGAIN for the umpteenth time. I’ve got a headache and the kiddies are extra happy and screaming that high pitched scream they all have mastered. (g) I’m much better with Thanksgiving. πŸ™‚

  3. My husband discovered his own secret to enjoying Halloween–he’s like you. He poured a good glass of Pinot Noir and cranked up some cool Halloween music on the cable system (the Sounds of the Season channel). Much better! πŸ˜€

  4. I hear you on the older kids. On Monday night, I turned off all the lights, deposited the kitten with Sean and hid out in the basement to avoid greedy stragglers!
